Samsung aims radius clamping the venerable Galaxy S4 to create the Mini GS4 . This smaller smartphone does not offer quite the full experience GS4 , but it comes pretty close.

BODY

The entire device is wrapped in what looks like the paint is shiny, smooth , reflective, and prone to collecting fingerprints grossly apparent.

The size is pretty good. It is almost identical in size to the Apple iPhone 5. This means it takes is comfortable and fits perfectly in the palm . It is light and strong. It will fit within any pocket without any problem . There is nothing cheap - feeling about this .

The face of the Mini is clean and in perfect harmony with the Samsung family devices . Shape, chrome , accents, the physical home button, etc. , are clearly cut from the Samsung tissue. The screen itself is 4.3 inches and there are capacitive buttons on either side of the physical home button below the screen. All buttons work well . Capacitive keys have good feedback and they light a little short.

The volume rocker is a thin strip along the left edge of the phone. It has a good profile and is quite easy to find. Travel and comments are excellent. The same is true of the lock button on the screen to the right edge of the phone. The headphone jack is on the top and the microUSB port is on the bottom .

The battery cover makes the entire back panel of the phone. As with all Samsung devices, there is a notch that allows you to remove the cover in a jiffy. The Mini has a slot in both the memory card and SIM card, but you must remove the battery to access it. On the other hand , you can replace the batteries if you need.

This is a good piece of equipment.

SCREEN

The display of the GS4 is one of its best assets. It can not quite be said for the GS4 Mini. It consists down the size from 5 inches to 4.3 , and 1080p HD qHD (960 x 540). I was hoping Samsung would at least give the Mini a 720p HD screen, but this is not the case . This is not a bad screen - not at all - but it is not the best either . SIGNAL

The Mini performed on par with other Sprint devices when it came on the network. It connected easily and held on while the signal was available. The Mini was able to connect calls in the worst network conditions , but managed to drop at least a few. When a strong signal was available, the Mini was a champion in terms of calls and sending / receiving data connection. Deadlines have never been so impressive , despite the fact that we tested the Mini on LTE . The Mini is one of the first LTE -compatible tri-band devices with Sprint Spark, the jazzed -up Sprint 4G service . We tested the device in Manhattan, which is supposed to provide access Spark. As far as we can tell, however, the device does not have access Spark during our review period.

SOUND

I was especially pleased with the call quality using the mini . The headphone output voice rather sharp , but they are clear and audible in most cases with strong listener . I have not had trouble hearing callers in my house or outside , but the hiss of an espresso machine does its best to cover one of my conversations. ( The Mini supports HD Voice , but only when calling another phone HD Voice enabled . Both phones must also have access to LTE . ) The speaker sounded a bit rough for me, and the volume was not as strong as it should be. The people I 've talked to have said that I looked OK , but not great. Ringtones and alerts are all very well in terms of volume, and the buzzer was strong enough to attract my attention.

BATTERY

The Mini has a battery 1900 mAh inside , which is a bit smaller than the full size GS4 . The small screen does not need much juice to keep flowing, however, and the Mini is able to get only one full day on a single charge . We tested it on LTE and does not seem to much of a dent in the battery life . Most users should be able to get a whole day before the Mini, but not much more than that. I urge every night.
